What does pothole repair cost in Auckland in 2026?
Updated: May 31

Short answer: between NZ$350 for a single driveway patch and $3,800+ for a complex commercial site. This guide breaks down what drives the number up or down, what's included, and how to get a fixed price in under ten minutes without a site visit.
The quick answer by job type
Single pothole patch (driveway, under 0.25 m²): $350–650
Multi-patch bundle (2–4 holes): $700–1,400
Multi-patch bundle (5–10 holes): $1,400–1,800
Trench or edge reinstatement (per site): $2,400–3,500
Complex / large commercial site: $3,800+
These are all-in fixed prices at Rapidpatch — crew, materials, compaction, cleanup, 12-month warranty, and a before-and-after photo report included. No site-visit fee.
What drives the price of pothole repair in Auckland?
Five things, in order of impact:
Number of potholes — the biggest driver. Crews spend similar setup time for one hole or three; economy of scale kicks in from hole #2 onward.
Depth and area — a shallow 30cm-wide patch uses a fraction of the material of a knee-deep 1-metre crater.
Site complexity — a quiet driveway is straightforward. A busy supermarket carpark with public access needs traffic management and costs more.
Timing — urgent same-day work adds $250. Overnight (10pm–5am) adds 40%. Standard 48-hour booking is the base price.
Access — steep driveways, locked gates, narrow lanes, or long hauls from the van all add time.
Weather does not drive Rapidpatch's price. Our cold-mix repairs can be applied in any weather, including directly into water-filled potholes. We don't reschedule for rain and we don't surcharge for it.
Cold mix vs hot mix — which affects cost?
Two kinds of asphalt repair exist in Auckland:
Cold mix — polymer-modified asphalt applied at ambient temperature. Works in rain, works in winter, cures under traffic. 1–3 year life in most carparks. Standard Rapidpatch repair.
Hot mix — traditional asphalt trucked from a plant at 160°C. Requires dry substrate, saw-cut edges, tack coat, and a roller. 10+ year life. Only possible in dry summer conditions.
Our standard price is for cold mix. If you want a permanent hot-mix repair, we schedule it into your next available dry-weather window (November–March in Auckland) and quote separately. Most Auckland customers book a cold-mix repair now for the immediate problem, then return for hot-mix in summer for the sites that matter most.
Why are some pothole repair quotes much higher than others?
Traditional asphalt contractors quote pothole work in one of three ways:
Hourly rate + materials — you pay for time, not outcome. Slow contractors cost more, good ones cost less. You don't know which you're getting until the invoice.
Day rate — a minimum half-day or full-day call-out, regardless of job size. A single pothole on a Takapuna driveway can end up priced at $1,800 under this model.
Site-visit quote — the contractor comes out, measures, and takes 1–3 weeks to come back with a number. You've lost time and still don't have a booking.
Rapidpatch prices from a photo, within ten minutes, with a fixed number. No site-visit fee. No minimum call-out. No time-and-materials. What you see is what you pay.
What's included in the price of a Rapidpatch repair?
Every job, every tier:
Crew (two people plus vehicle and equipment)
Materials (cold mix, tack coat if hot mix, crack sealant where specified)
Compaction (mechanical or hand-compacted as required)
Cleanup and site return
12-month workmanship warranty
Before-and-after photo report with geotagged coordinates
Xero invoice
Traffic management (cones, signage, spotter where public access requires it, surcharge applies for busy sites)
What's not included:
Resurfacing (we repair; we don't resurface whole driveways or carparks)
Line marking (we can recommend a partner)
Structural base reconstruction (required when subgrade has failed — we'll tell you honestly if that's the case)
What should you send for an accurate pothole repair quote?
Three photos, an address, and five quick details. Takes under two minutes:
Wide photo — shows the damage in context (is this a driveway, a carpark, a yard?)
Close-up photo — shows the depth and edges
Reference photo — include a water bottle, shoe, or A4 paper in one photo so we can estimate size from the image
Then tell us: how many separate holes, roughly how deep, and is water pooling in them? We turn that into a fixed price in ten minutes during business hours.
