The crew books within 48 hours and the photo report lands the day the work completes.
The rest of this post covers what counts as a driveway repair, the three pricing tiers in detail, what to photograph, the five most common scenarios we see in Auckland, and what is included on every job.
What counts as asphalt driveway repair
Rapidpatch repairs the existing asphalt surface on private driveways across the Auckland region. That covers:
Residential driveways — single-house, townhouse, infill housing
Body-corp driveways — shared accessways, multi-unit complexes
Retirement village driveways — internal roads, resident parking
Lifestyle block driveways — long rural-edge driveways on the city fringe
Commercial-property driveways — small business sites, office park entrances
What we do not do:
Public road repair (Auckland Transport's responsibility)
New asphalt laying on previously-unsealed driveways
Full driveway resurfacing or reseal of the whole surface
Concrete driveway work
Decorative finishes (exposed aggregate, coloured asphalt)
The shorthand: if there is asphalt on the ground and a hole, crack, or trench in it, we patch it. If the whole driveway needs replacing, that is a different category of contractor and we will say so on the quote.
Asphalt driveway repair pricing in Auckland
Three tiers, each fixed-price, each stated on the written quote before any crew is dispatched.
Repair tier | Fixed price from | Best for | Typical size |
Single Patch | $450 | One pothole, one site visit | Up to ~400mm wide, 70mm deep |
Multi-Patch Bundle | $950 | Two or more holes, one driveway | 3-4 holes, $950-$1,400 typical |
Trench / Edge Reinstatement | $2,400 | Utility trench or kerb-edge spalling | Defined area, longer sections |
Single Patch — from $450
One repaired hole on one site, one mobilisation. Covers a typical residential driveway pothole up to roughly 400mm across and 70mm deep. Includes edge prep, polymer-modified cold-mix or hot-mix as the surface dictates, compaction, and the photo report.
What it covers in practice:
A pothole near the letterbox where car wheels turn
A hole at the kerb interface where the driveway meets the road
A single hole in the middle of the driveway where the asphalt has collapsed
Multi-Patch Bundle — from $950
Two or more patches on the same driveway, one mobilisation. The price moves with hole count and total square-metre area, not with vehicle trips, so the second and third patches cost less per hole than booking them separately.
What it covers in practice:
A driveway with three or four holes from years of deferred maintenance
A retirement-village internal road with multiple holes after a wet winter
A body-corp shared driveway where each owner has noticed a different hole
A typical Auckland residential driveway with three holes lands at $950–$1,400 fixed price.
Trench / Edge Reinstatement — from $2,400
Re-laying asphalt over a previously-cut utility trench, or reinstating a kerb-edge that has spalled along a longer section. Heavier prep, more aggregate, longer cure.
What it covers in practice:
Watercare or Vector trench across a driveway after a connection job
Long edge spalling where the driveway meets the road kerb
A defined area replacement where multiple holes have merged into a section
Surcharges, where they apply, are stated upfront on the quote: traffic management +$180, urgent under-24-hour booking +$250, overnight 10pm–5am +40%.
What the 10-minute photo quote process looks like
Five steps, no salesperson, no site visit.
Submit a photo through rapidpatch.co.nz/form. One photo from above the hole, one wider photo showing the driveway context, and a rough measurement (a coin or a phone in the frame works for scale).
Fixed-price quote by email in 10 minutes during business hours. The quote is a written PDF with the price, the work scope, the warranty terms, and the booking SLA. Valid 14 days from the quote date.
Approve when you are ready. A reply email or the link in the PDF accepts the quote.
Booking within 48 hours of acceptance. The crew confirms a date and arrives rain or shine. The polymer-modified cold-mix bonds in wet conditions, so weather is not a reschedule reason.
Photo report and invoice the day work completes. Geotagged before-and-after photos in a PDF, plus the Xero invoice, both in your inbox before the crew leaves the next site. The 12-month workmanship warranty is on the invoice.
The whole sequence — photo submitted to fixed asphalt — is typically under a week.
What to photograph for a driveway repair quote
The quote engine reads the photo and the dimensions. The cleaner the photo, the tighter the price, the lower the chance of a follow-up question.
For each hole or damaged area:
One photo from directly above showing the full extent of the hole
One photo from a low angle showing the depth
One photo from a few metres back showing the surrounding driveway and how vehicles use the area
A scale reference in at least one photo — a coin, a phone, a ruler, a hand
A rough width and depth in millimetres if you have a tape measure
If you have multiple holes, photograph each one the same way. If you have a trench, photograph along the line of the trench, not across it.
What not to do: photos at night, photos in heavy rain so the hole is full of water (we cannot see the depth), or photos cropped so tight we cannot see the surrounding surface.
The five most common Auckland driveway repair scenarios
Most driveway repair jobs in Auckland fall into one of these five patterns. Photograph guidance is included for each.
1 — Single hole near the letterbox or turnaround
The most common single-patch job. The hole sits where front wheels turn, where weight loads concentrate. Usually 200–400mm across, 30–60mm deep.
What to photograph: the hole from above, the kerb or letterbox in the wider shot for context, and a phone in the frame for scale.
Typical price: Single Patch from $450.
2 — Multiple holes from years of deferred maintenance
A driveway that has not had a repair in 10 years. Three or four holes scattered along the wheel paths. Edge spalling on at least one. The surrounding asphalt is grey and brittle but still structurally sound.
What to photograph: a wide shot showing all the holes and the driveway end-to-end, plus a close-up of each hole.
Typical price: Multi-Patch Bundle from $950, usually $1,200–$1,600 for four holes.
3 — Edge spalling at the kerb interface
Where the driveway meets the road. The asphalt has crumbled along a 1–3 metre line, often with the kerb itself still intact. Looks worse than it is — the structural fix is straightforward but needs more aggregate than a single hole.
What to photograph: along the line of the spalling (not across), one shot from the road looking toward the house, one from the driveway looking out.
Typical price: Trench / Edge Reinstatement from $2,400, depending on length.
4 — Trench reinstatement after utility works
Watercare, Vector, or Chorus has cut a trench across the driveway and the temporary backfill has settled or failed. The original contractor signed off but the surface is now uneven and the asphalt cap is breaking up.
What to photograph: along the trench line (showing length), one close-up of the worst section, one wide shot showing where the trench enters and exits the driveway.
Typical price: Trench / Edge Reinstatement from $2,400, scaled by length and depth.
5 — Body-corp shared driveway with multiple owners
A shared accessway in a multi-unit complex. Three or four owners have each flagged a different hole. The committee needs one fixed quote to approve through the levy. Often pairs with a request for a copy of the $2M public liability certificate before any crew is dispatched.
What to photograph: a wide shot of the full accessway, individual close-ups of each hole, and ideally a sketch or unit-numbered note of which hole sits outside which unit.
Typical price: Multi-Patch Bundle from $950, scaled by hole count. PL certificate emailed before booking on request.
Cold-mix versus hot-mix for residential driveways
Both have a place. The choice is dictated by weather and surface, not preference.
Polymer-modified cold-mix is what we use on rain days and on smaller residential patches where next-day return-to-service matters. It bonds in wet conditions, compacts under a hand-roller, and is open to traffic within an hour. The right choice for most residential jobs under 2 square metres.
Hot-mix is plant-mixed asphalt delivered hot. It needs dry conditions and a longer cure. The right choice for larger trench reinstatements, edge work that will be load-tested by trucks, and any job over 4 square metres.
The mix type is stated on the quote. If we recommend hot-mix and the forecast does not allow it, we offer a cold-mix alternative at a comparable price rather than reschedule.
For more detail on this choice see cold-mix vs hot-mix asphalt — which is right for your Auckland driveway or carpark.
What is included, and what is not
Included on every Rapidpatch driveway repair:
Fixed-price written quote, valid 14 days
12-month workmanship warranty, written on the invoice
$2M public liability insurance, certificate available before booking
Geotagged before-and-after photo report, PDF to your inbox the day work completes
Xero invoice the same day, payment terms 14 days
Polymer-modified cold-mix or hot-mix selected per weather and surface
Edge prep, compaction, and clean-up
Not included:
Full driveway resurfacing or reseal — refer to a resurfacing specialist
Concrete driveway repair, replacement, or resurfacing
Decorative or coloured-asphalt finishes
Drainage works (sumps, channels, soakage pits) — refer to a drainage contractor
Retaining wall or kerb construction work
If your driveway needs anything in the second list, the quote will say so and refer you to a contractor that does the work. We do not quote outside the scope.
Auckland driveway repair coverage
The Rapidpatch crew covers the Auckland region — North Shore, Central, East, South, West. Suburbs we work in regularly include:
Albany, Mt Eden, Penrose, East Tamaki, Manukau, Henderson, Onehunga, New Lynn, Takapuna, Mt Wellington, Newmarket, Howick.
If your suburb is not in that list and you are inside the Auckland Council boundary, we still cover it. The list above is the most common, not the limit.
We do not cover Hamilton, Tauranga, Whangarei, or Wellington.
Booking before winter
Auckland averages 130mm of rain in June and 117mm in July. Driveway potholes that are stable in May are typically 50–100% larger by August. The Single Patch from $450 in May is often the Multi-Patch Bundle from $950 in August, because what was one hole has become three.
If you have a driveway hole now, the lowest-cost decision is to quote it this week and book before June. There is no obligation when you submit the photo. The quote is fixed price, valid 14 days, and you decide whether to proceed.
